Grape varieties
The wines of Lalande de Pomerol are made essentially from three premium grape
varieties that are perfectly complementary:
MERLOT
This variety predominates in the Libourne area, and particularly in Lalande
de Pomerol where it is clearly the most widely planted grape. It is part and
parcel of the appellation's identity. It gives roundness, finesse, and a deep,
dark colour to the wines. Merlot is an early-maturing and somewhat fragile variety
to grow. When picked at the peak of ripeness, it produces absolutely sumptuous
wines!
CABERNET FRANC
This variety gives body and a powerful bouquet to the wines.
CABERNET SAUVIGNON
Wines made from this variety have a lovely colour. They are well-structured,
and have a great deal of bouquet. Cabernet Sauvignon also provides good ageing
potential
The great wines of Lalande de Pomerol are made from a blend of these three varieties.
Each one accounts for an essential part of the wines' character.
